Server Update

Of no interest to anybody but me … but this is at least one way for me to record when this occured!

For the last few years this site has been running on an old Athlon 1800 PC. I have progressively added more disk to this box via external USB drives, primarily to handle our music, movies and music … all of which has, of course, been legally acquired by ripping our own media. Adelaide United were champions this season as well!

I think this must be about 6 years old now … basically if I had to get rid of it I would probably give it away, it’s worth nothing. With a bit of back pay coming my way this week as a result of the new public service pay agreement (not as much as the freakin’ teachers are going get though I might add) I figured I might invest in a new PC to act as a srver for us.

JB-HiFi had on special a HP machine with a E5300 Core Duo processor, 2Gb of RAM and a 500Gb hard drive, along with windows 7, for $570 … no screen of course but then the server machine runs headless here anyway. Basically I couldn’t leave it in the shop.

Last night I set it up and now you are viewing this site, along with Unley Rangers and Wittwer Motors from it.

Mintaro Road Trip 2

Long time readers may recall this post covering the first time Hedy and I visited the ruin that friends Andy and Seona had bought out at Mintaro on the eastern edge of the Clare Valley.

What better way to spend Valentine’s Day with another trip (with the Jans) to view the progress and to share brunch under the trees in what is really starting to become much more than a ruin.

From the front

Compare these photos with the one on the earlier post to see just how much work, and money, Andy and Seona have done up until now. I am finally starting to realise just how much vision they have had when purchasing this all that time ago.

We set oursleves up on a table under a huge gum and proceeded to demolish the bacon and eggs, before setting off for a walk around Mintaro. Then back to the house for a couple of glasses of wine, a visit from Karen and Rodney who were in the area celebrating their anniversary, and then back in the car for the drive home.

All in all, a great day!

It’s a girl …

… or at least that’s what I was told just over 21 years ago, when little baby Jessica was born. Where on earth did those 21 years go!

Jess celebrated her 21st with a “gathering” … (“It’s not a party, I don’t want a party, just a get-together of family and friends”) … at home on 2 January. I guess around 60 of us were there to help her celebrate. Unfortunately I didn’t get many photos of the birthday girl herself, she seemed to move from group to group way too quick. I also missed the obligatory cake cutting photo as I was tasked with making the speech.

I tried to make the point that I think the most amazing thing about Jess is her courage to go out and explore the world, without losing touch with the importance of her family and friends. Not many kids are able to spend so much time overseas studying and then return and live in a small country town like Murray Bridge, and yet this was Jess’s preference. Good on her for following her heart I say!

So, Happy (belated) Birthday Jess!

(PS: Don’t be too offended that I posted about Fruchoc Icecreams before your birthday … Fruchocs and icecream are both very important things in life!)
(PPS: Sorry I mentioned the “fish” thing!)
