Where did those 17 years go?

At 8.32 this morning Matt turned 17. As a result he finally has the IPhone he has wanted for months, a kick-arse remote control helicopter that is about as big as Chloe and a new game for the Wii.

Happy Birthday buddy!

Finally … The Lane

It seems eons ago now, but just over 12 months ago on our way back from Clare, Hedy and I stumbled upon The Lane Vineyard and Bistro.  We added it to our list of places to visit at some stage in the future. Of course, events got the better of such plans … until yesterday.

With Hedy starting her new job next week, I decided to have a few days off this week and, as luck would have it, yesterday dawned bright and sunny with the added bonus that friends Stewart and Lesley were able to free up their afternoon to join us for lunch. Our luck continued when we were able to book  table at The Lane.

The Lane Cellar Door

The Lane Cellar Door

Often anticipated outings like this don’t always meet expectations … often, but not always! The Lane was essentially everything we were expecting it to be … beautiful views over vines and the Mt Lofty Ranges, wonderful food and wine, and, at around $290 for 1 and 1/2 courses each, a beer and a glass of white, and a bottle of wine, I guess reasonably expensive.

We started with tasters of little cheese puff dealies and a chilli salt and pepper squid. The cheese puffs were yummy, and I even managed a couple of forks of the squid, a real rarity for me as it usually just reminds me of an old rubber … eraser.

Main courses were a fillet of beef each for the guys, pork belly for Hedy and a vegetable dish of some sort for Lesley, all very nice. My plate was certainly clean at the end.

All in all, highly recommended … even if we did have to share the restaurant with a certain Port player on crutches with a bad ankle from his 200th on Sunday!

Unley Rangers’ Quiz Night

Dan and Darth Vader

Dan and Darth Vader

A group of us went along, with about 250 others, on Saturday night to the Unley Rangers’ Quiz Night … which turned out to be a huge success, both from a fun, and a fund raising, aspect.

Dan was heavily involved in the organisation of the night and spent much time as “MC” as well. One of the highlights for us is caught above, when Matt volunteered to play the rest of the crowd at scissors, rock, paper … with covered eyes and ears of course. In some ways this sums up our sons right now, both able to confidently taking centre stage whenever asked, and “up for anything” that might be fun!

The low-light was not winning the auction on the Adelaide Crows top signed by most of the team … and my hangover the next day!
