Why … because its a Rinnai

Why ... because its a Rinnai
Spent the day at home yesterday due to a Student Free Day at Matt’s school (yep, just before a long weekend again!). I had also arranged to have our new hot water service installed at the same time.

Some weeks ago we got a letter advising us that Envestra were offering a range of cash-backs in an attempt to get households to install gas products. One of the offers was a $500 cash-back if you were swapping an electric hot water service to a continuous flow gas model.

Now, our current hot water service was installed late in 1999. The old one sprung a major leak, coincidentally while Hedy was actually visiting the Rheem factory! (Rheem were owned by Southcorp back then, before Southcorp were taken over by Rosemount, which was before Southcorp was bought by Fosters … did you keep up with me on that?)

At the time we had no choice but to put in another electric storage heater, this was before the gas came to our street. (That by the way was where the whole renovation started … deciding to put in a gas hotplate … hmmm… way as well upgrade the kitchen … on and on it went until the whole bloody house was done.)

So the old one was getting on for 6 years old and if they wanted to give us $500 for swapping to a gas system it sounded pretty good to us.

We chose a Rinnai Infinity 20 with just one controller located in the kitchen. These things are no longer the fire-breathing monsters they used to be. They are now very compact and quiet and light themselves each time the water is turned on … no more pilot lights to blow out as they used to.

Dale from Dale Wilson Plumbing did the work and was as efficient as when he worked on our laundry … well recommended if you are in the Blackwood/Belair area.

In the end we have much more space on the back verandah now and have been able to loose a lot of plumbing that was in place for more historical rather than practical reasons. Now all I have to do is talk Stewart into moving a power point a bit closer to the heater for us.

No more getting frozen or scalded in the shower as somebody washes dishes!

  1. Hi Kym & Hedy, We fitted the same unit 18 months ago with a controller in each bathroom and one in the kitchen. They are an excellent unit. Uses heaps less gas than our 20 year old unit. You want regret this one……………..Peter
