Cup Champions at last!

[image:1236:l][newline]As many of you would know Hedy, Matt and I spend many of our winter Saturday afternoons watching Dan play soccer with the rest of the Unley Old Scholars Soccer Club, aka the Unley Rangers. This has been a big year for the club … their 10 year anniversary, marked by a great “Team of the Decade dinner … back to back League Premierships in the “Bs” and finally, on Saturday, winning the Collegiate Cup for the first time.

We ventured out to Oakden (think Yatala) to Adelaide City’s home ground, the neutral venue for the Cup final versus Scotch College.

What a great game of soccer … Unley 0-2 down at half time, only to come back to being 3-2 up, then the Scotch equalizer. Our hearts were in our mouths as the game went through the first 15 minutes of extra time without further score and then finally, just as the penalty shoot-out was around 3 minutes away, the Rangers got the bloody thing into the net one more time to run out eventual winners 4-3.

Hedy, Matt and I watched with a large group of Rangers fans, including Andy and Seona and Stewart and Lesley. The game showcased all that is good with the Collegiate League, high quality soccer, lots of slanging from the sidelines, cheap beer and a fierce, but generally good-natured rivalry on the field.

Well done Rangers! Bring on next year.
