Most of my family and friends have had the “don’t click on anything that randomly pops up advising you that your computer needs to be scanned” lecture from me … and a depressing number have either forgotten or ignored my warnings over the years and subsequently risked my scorn and asked for help.
For those that care I stumbled on this today which actually describes how these things work quite well.
