What were they thinking!

Let’s start with a little caveat here … maybe there is a good explanation for this that I just can’t see. If so, please let me know … otherwise sit back in wonderment at the stupidity displayed here with me!

The image above (from my phone, hence sub-optimal in quality) is of the foyer to my floor at work. It is essentially identical to about 14 others in my building.

[image:995:l:l=x]The very observant might notice a little blue sign on the wall over on the lefthand side of the image. It is enlarged here for your reading pleasure. As you can see this is a sign indicating that the ablutions can be found by wandering in the direction indicated. You might also notice a little bit of Braille underneath which, presumably, says the same thing if you are able to read Braille.[newline]

Yep, you might be able to see it coming already … but, if not, here it is anyway! How on earth is the vision-impaired person leaving the lift well supposed to locate this bloody sign? Do they step out of the lift thinking they need the toilet and then carefully feel their way around the entire foyer, safe in the knowledge that a caring building designer would have placed such a sign somewhere for them? Picture it for a second … without smiling!

WTF were they thinking? What on earth went through the mind of the signage person when designing this little gem?

And even if the afore-mentioned visually-imapired person managed to find the sign, what exactly does the Braille say? Does it say “Women need to take the first turn on the left, then walk through two doors to find the appropriate set of cubicles, while men need to walk to the end of the corridor, turn left, open the door, avoid the second door to the stair well by veering right, and then go through the next two doors to find a urinal?” I can’t read Braille, but those few symbols on the sign seem way too little to actually give any help to somebody that can.

Go figure!

…and i reckon once a vision-impaired – or unimpaired – person finds the loos the first time, they may not need the sign for subsequent visits…..?

    maybe a says “umm….too hard”

  3. I noticed it on Friday and thought then that the Braille was a bit optimistic. Besides, surely their hands would be tingling after feeling their way past the feature concrete 😉

The best bit is that the Ladies and Gents dont have a brail designation, how does a visually impaired person know they are in the right one? There is also no pooper scoopers supplied for their dogs either!

Just Evil – I love it!
